The bill provides an extension of government funding through March 14, allocating $100 billion. for states affected by natural disasters and support measures to the tune of $10 billion. for farmers.

After a long debate, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to prevent a government shutdown. Reuters wrote this on Saturday, December 21.

The resolution was supported by 366 lawmakers, 34 opposed, and one abstained. The vote came Friday night after a failed attempt to advance a bipartisan bill that would have provided temporary budget funding for three months.

“Although Democrats and Republicans in Congress reached an agreement on it, Elon Musk, as well as President-elect Donald Trump, opposed the document, almost blocking its adoption,” wrote the agency.

In particular, Trump proposed significant changes to the bill, but the House of Representatives failed to pass it during a vote on Thursday. At least 38 Republicans, including conservatives, spoke out against it, surprising the president-elect. His party members do not support the sharp changes in the policy of Trump, who previously criticized the increase of the US debt limit, and now proposed to remove these restrictions within two years.

Lawmakers failed to reach an agreement Friday on a three-month bill, so they took the path of least resistance by passing a resolution to temporarily fund the government at last year’s level with some additions. . The resolution is designed for the period until March 14.

The Senate must also pass the bill to send it to current President Joe Biden for his signature. The White House said Biden would sign it to ensure the smooth running of the US government.

In the United States, the fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30. In situations where the budget for the current fiscal year has not been passed by Congress and signed by the President, funding for federal agencies is usually provided through resolutions to temporarily extend appropriations at previous fiscal year levels.

Earlier it was reported that the House of Representatives of Congress failed in the government funding bill initiated by Donald Trump.

Republicans will retain control of the House of Representatives.
