Georgian officials who fell under US and British sanctions will be awarded the Order of Honor. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said this on Friday, December 20, Voice of America wrote.
“This is not only a response to the sanctions, it is not only a response to an unfair decision, but, above all, it is a response to the worthy actions of the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs It is a response to dignity and humanity,” said Kobakhidze.
According to him, “after the inauguration of the new president on December 29, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri and ten other police officers will be presented to the order.”
He also promised: “if any official suffers financial losses due to sanctions, the state of Georgia will fully compensate them.”
The Order of Honor is a state award of Georgia, established in 1992. It is awarded by decree of the President of Georgia or by a decision of the parliament. The Order is awarded for special services to the state, contribution to the development of science, culture, sports and strengthening of international cooperation.
The award is considered one of the most prestigious in the country.
Zelensky signed a decree that will take effect following the National Security and Defense Council’s decision to impose sanctions against Georgian Dream party founder Bidzina Ivanishvili and 19 of his accomplices. The sanctions will be in effect for 10 years.
We remind you that on December 14, the presidential election was held in Georgia. The electoral college elected Mikhail Kavelashvili as president. The current leader, Salome Zurabishvili, does not recognize the election results.
