Hungarian Prime Minister Orban granted asylum to a Polish politician accused of embezzling budget funds.
Hungary granted political asylum to Polish MP and former Deputy Minister of Justice Marcin Romanowski, which Warsaw called a “hostile act.” A scandal is brewing between the two countries.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski sharply criticized Budapest’s actions on Thursday, December 19.
“We consider the decision of the government of Viktor Orban to grant political asylum to M. Romanovsky, who is suspected of criminal offenses and wanted on a European arrest warrant, as an act against the Republic of Poland and its principles of the European Union,” wrote Sikorski on the social network.
He also noted that the Polish government will announce its further actions in this regard on Friday, December 20.
Let’s remember that a year ago the government in Poland changed. The Law and Justice party (PiS), which had been in power for a long time, was replaced by a coalition led by Donald Tusk, after which purges began in the country.
The Polish Foreign Ministry advised Orban to create an alliance with Putin and leave NATO
