Powerful explosions occurred in the Murmansk region of Russia on Thursday, December 19.
Residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk, located 12 km from it, heard two explosions the day before. The blast waves were felt at a distance of several tens of kilometers. It could have been loud in the area of the main naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet. The corresponding video appeared on the Internet. This was reported by the Crimean Wind Telegram channel and the Norwegian publication The Barents Observer.
According to media reports, the Severomorsk-1 military airfield is located 13 km from the shooting location, where Russian fighters, bombers and Ka-27 helicopters are based. Also at a distance of 11 km there is an open weapons depot, and in the north-west there are several installations with mobile anti-aircraft missiles and antennas for electronic warfare systems.
In addition, in Severomorsk and Murmansk there is a closed military airfield “Severomorsk-2”, which the Russians began to restore this year.
Experts believe that the explosion depicted in the video resembles the detonation of a large amount of ammunition.
