Ukraine must choose between continuing the fight or a truce with Russia. The Biden administration is trying to give Kyiv a strong position.
Ukrainians must decide: continue fighting the war or negotiate and try to come to terms with Russia. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this in an interview with MSNBC. The transcript of the interview was released Thursday, December 19, by the State Department’s website.
Blinken noted that the United States is committed to ensuring that Ukraine has a strong position by 2025.
“I want to make sure that we give the new administration and the Ukrainians the strongest possible positioning to play in 2025. The Ukrainians have to make major decisions about whether to continue fighting or negotiate and try to get it to a ceasefire,” Blinken said.
He emphasized that the main question is whether the Russian Federation is ready to do this and “do it in good faith.”
“But if he goes ahead with this, we want to make sure that the Ukrainians and the Trump administration have the best possible play to get the strongest deal possible. And that means trying to strengthen Ukraine’s position on the battlefield, making sure that it has money, it has ammunition and it mobilized the manpower to extend it,” he explained.
That means keeping maximum pressure on Russia, Blinken said.
“Russia is feeling the brunt of all this pressure we’ve put on dozens of other countries over the past two years. The battlefield is huge.” Putin continues to throw these young people through a meat grinder of his own making,” Blinken said.
He is confident that Trump, once he is in office, “if he wants to translate it into an agreement, we want to make sure that he has a strong hand in any negotiations, and this means the support of the Ukrainians.”
Blinken also mentioned assurances that this war will not happen again in the future.
“If it comes to the point that there will be a cease-fire, and this cease-fire is on fair and long-term terms, that is good. But for it to be long-term, there must be some guarantees that Russia will not just rest, -rearms and will attack again in a year, two years, five years It will be decisive.
In his opinion, if it succeeds, Ukraine is on the path to victory.
“This is a country that stands as an independent country. It is not erased from the map. This is what Putin wanted to do. He failed. It can stand firmly on its own feet, militarily, economically, democratically. This is the best possible scolding Putin.” , said the Secretary of State.
He also expressed his belief that President Trump wants to negotiate a good deal in the future.
Earlier, Trump said that Ukraine and Russia are soon tired of war and are ready to negotiate peace.
