The jailed raider promised to pay the potential killer 50 thousand dollars for killing a key witness.
Law enforcement officers prevented the contract killing of a key witness in the case of bribing an official of the Main Investigation Department of the SBU. The intelligence service announced this on Thursday, December 19.
The department recalled that in the spring of 2024, a group of raiders offered the SBU colonel $1 million. Businessmen are counting on his help in the raider takeover of a mining company in the Vinnytsia region. But the officer immediately reported to his superiors about the “offer” he had received, after which the accused were detained.
“However, while in the pre-trial detention center, the organizer of the criminal group planned to kill the main witness in this case, he tried to avoid punishment in court,” the report said.
According to the SBU, the defendant began looking for a murderer. He sought help from arrested criminals with whom he was in the pre-trial detention center and had relevant connections at large. At the same time, the raider promised to provide the potential perpetrator of the murder with all personal information about the witness, especially his residential address and travel routes. The killer must receive 50 thousand dollars.
But the intelligence service exposed the defendant’s plans in advance, documented his illegal activities and blocked them at the stage of preparation for the contract killing. He was informed of a new suspicion under the article on preparation to commit a contract killing (part 3 of article 27, part 1 of article 14, paragraphs 8, 11, 12 of part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ). According to the new facts, the attacker faces life imprisonment with confiscation of assets.
Earlier, a coal scheme worth 1 billion Hryvnia was discovered in the Donetsk region. The leader of the local community of the territory helped the attackers. He is currently abroad.
