The Ternopil Special Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense yesterday, December 16, opened criminal proceedings regarding the use of non-statutory measures of influence against subordinates (Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code) by the command of the 211th Pontoon-Bridge Brigade.
The investigation has been entrusted to the State Bureau of Investigation. This was reported by the press services of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the DBI.
In criminal proceedings, possible illegal actions of brigade officers are being investigated, which consisted of using physical violence against subordinates under martial law, extorting funds and exceeding disciplinary authority, the prosecutor’s office said. — Materials collected during internal inspections of the brigade by the Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, messages in the media and social networks are being studied.
The DBR stated that the bureau had not previously received any materials on this situation, either from officials or from the fighters of the brigade.
In addition, the commander of this brigade was reported today about suspicion of abuse of official position (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code). In criminal proceedings, pre-trial investigation is carried out by units of the National Police.
It was established that in the fall of 2023, he involved four subordinates in the construction of his house in the Khmelnitsky region instead of their service in combat zones, the Office of the Prosecutor General said.
It is noted that these military personnel were officially included in the order for business trips to the Nikolaev region, where they allegedly performed duties, but in fact they were not there. At the same time, they received salaries and combat payments totaling about a million hryvnia.
Law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches in the military unit at the place of residence of the commander, military personnel and at the construction site. Documentation and other material evidence of illegal activities were seized, the department noted.
