The judge rejected arguments by Trump’s lawyers about the president’s immunity for acting within the scope of official authority.

A New York court on Monday, December 16, refused to overturn a jury verdict that found Donald Trump guilty of criminal charges of falsifying campaign spending records during his 2016 presidential campaign. .The Financial Times reported this

Judge Juan Merchan rejected arguments from Trump’s lawyers who argued that the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity for actions within the bounds of official authority exempts the former president from liability.

Trump’s lawyers have argued that the immunity ruling should extend to the bribery case.

The prosecution asserted that the crimes against Trump were committed before he was elected president.

“Trump will likely appeal the decision and call the criminal charges filed against him a politically motivated shooting,” the publication said.

CNN previously reported that US Special Prosecutor Jack Smith is in talks with the leadership of the Justice Department to end the prosecution of Donald Trump.
