Russia’s massive attack on the Ukrainian energy system on December 13 was aimed at interstate energy infrastructure facilities. Its goal was to reduce export-import opportunities as much as possible or even disconnect the Ukrainian energy system from the EU energy system.
Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of NPC Ukrenergo, said this at a press conference, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Of the characteristic moments of the latest attack, it was on the network infrastructure involved directly in export-import transactions between Ukraine and its European neighbors. This was done in order to minimize the possibility of attracting imports, and ideally to achieve the disconnection of the Ukrainian system from the European one, Boyko said.
In general, according to him, the latest attack was aimed at quite understandable goals – “key energy infrastructure facilities have traditionally been under attack, both in terms of transmission and electricity production.”
Regarding the prospects for restoring damaged facilities and easing power outage schedules, Boyko noted that “in the near future” consumers will feel the results of the colossal efforts of energy workers.
