With rumors that it has been planned by Disney since 2020, there are already possible names for the production and several requests from fans; see what we know!
Disney has a vast catalog of animations, which have been undergoing a process of renewal in recent years, as it is no longer new to discover that iconic plots launched by the studio will be adapted in a different format: live-action.
Over the last decade, for example, titles such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Aladdin” and “The Jungle Book” are part of the list of animated productions that gained flesh-and-blood interpreters, “Moana” and “Lilo & Stitch” are among those expected to arrive in theaters soon.
The number of future remakes, however, has a new possible addition, as another production with real actors and actresses is in negotiations: “Tangled”! This is because Variety stated last Wednesday, the 11th, that the first names are already being discussed for the project which, according to The DisInsider, has been in Casa do Mickey’s plans since 2020.
With this in mind, RECREIO put together a list with the information already released and what is expected by fans, arriving at 5 things you need to know about the possible live-action; check it out:
1. SCRIPT AND SCREENWRITER
According to Variety, the American director, producer and writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinsoninvolved in projects such as “Thor: Love and Thunder” (2022) and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2025), would have been chosen to write the script for the adaptation. Before her, Ashleigh Powell (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) had been considered for the position, as The DisInsider found out.
When a title is reimagined in a different format to what was originally released, it is common for the story to receive some changes to the plot or new plots, but it is not yet known whether Disney will choose this path.
If you decide to follow the events of the animation released in 2010, the project will follow Rapunzel, a young woman with long, golden hair whose strands are full of magic. She, who lives imprisoned in a tower in order to grant everything necessary to the whims of Mother Gothel, a woman who presents herself as the girl’s maternal figure, sees the chance to have the freedom she always dreamed of when the most wanted bandit of the kingdom, Flynn Rider, ends up crossing his path.
This is because Flynn had stolen the crown of a missing princess and, looking for a place to hide, ends up breaking into the tower. Surprised by Rapunzel, he ends up agreeing to her proposed plan: he will take her to see the lights that rise to the sky every year during her birthday and bring her back safely so she can give him back the crown.
With this, the duo, accompanied by their pets, the chameleon Pascal and the horse Maximus, embark on a true adventure to fulfill the girl’s simple wish and, while escaping from bandits, guards and Gothel, they will discover more about themselves and begin to a beautiful romance.
2. POSSIBLE DIRECTOR
Also with repercussions from Variety, it was revealed that the filmmaker Michael Gracey is currently in negotiations to direct the film. He was behind “The King of Show” (2017), a film that follows circus owner PT Barnum played by Hugh Jackman.
3. NAMES REQUESTED FOR THE CAST
There is still no confirmed name for the cast of “Tangled”, but fans have special requests for the protagonist and villain. This is because, Florence Pugh (Midsommar – Evil Doesn’t Wait for Night), Dove Cameron (Descendants), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (I never…), Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) and Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Apocalypse of Ice) are some of the names that have been circulating the internet to play Rapunzel since rumors of the live-action emerged.
Meanwhile, the actress and singer Cher is one of those who could play Gothel, since a photo of the artist next to Amanda Seyfried — also requested by fans even though she is far from Rapunzel’s age, after all she is 39 years old and the princess is 18 — highlighted her similarity to the character; remember:
4. THE ACTOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE IN THE CAST
Zachary Levi is the official voice actor for Flynn Rider and, at a fan convention in Chicago (via Legion of Heroes), he revealed that he would like to be in the cast after learning that Florence Pugh is one of the names requested to play Rapunzel:
“There’s this thing going around the internet, I just saw — someone sent it to me — that Florence Pugh could play the role of Rapunzel. What if she plays Rapunzel, what about me? That would be funny because my last name is Pugh. PUGH. Zachary Levi Pugh, so you’d have a Pugh double in Tangled.”
Yet, on another occasion, Levi highlighted that another actor would be interesting to play the princess’s romantic partner: Timothée Chalamet.
“He probably already has all the job offers in the world, but he probably Timothée Chalamet [seria o ator ideal]”, suggested Levi to Entertainment Weekly. “Unfortunately, I think I’m a little too old, and I don’t know all the young actors who could be that guy.”
5. PREMIERE
There is still no scheduled release date for the adaptation. Furthermore, as Disney has not yet officially confirmed the project through its official channels. There is also the possibility that the title will be shelved depending on the results of the next live-actions adapted from animations that should hit theaters in the coming years, the most recent among them, “Snow White”, whose premiere is scheduled for March 20 2025 in Brazil.
