Kyiv called on Hungarian officials to stop manipulating the topic of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Hungary to stop making statements about its ability to stop the war that do not correspond to reality, and to refrain from unilateral contact with Russia. This was stated in a commentary published by the department on Monday, December 16.
“We call on the Hungarian side to stop the immoral manipulation of the theme of peace and the Nativity of Christ, to avoid unilateral contact with the aggressive state, which destroys the joint effort to restore a just world The only obstacle to peace is that Russia and its war-obsessed dictator are striving for peace in its own land like no other in the world,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that the Hungarian side’s actions are further from peacekeeping than its statements. Thus, Hungary continues to call for leaving Ukraine, protected from Russian aggression, without weapons for self-defense, and withholds funding for increasing Ukraine’s defense capabilities, increasing the pressure of sanctions against in the Russian Federation and other critical decisions.
“The joint efforts of our state and its partners are aimed at achieving a just and sustainable peace, Ukraine always adheres to the principles of honest dialogue and mutual respect not the defeat of Ukraine,” – stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
We remind you that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had a telephone conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. The main topic is the war in Ukraine.
President Vladimir Zelensky responded to the unsolicited “initiatives” from Orban by declaring that talks about a war waged by Russia could not happen without Ukraine.
Orban responded to this criticism with a statement that Hungary allegedly offered Ukraine a ceasefire with a mass exchange of prisoners of war for Christmas, but “Zelensky refused to implement this idea.”
