There is talk among Russian soldiers that Moscow has agreed to maintain a presence at Syrian bases.
Russian troops in Syria face shortages of water and food, while rumors spread among soldiers that the Kremlin intends to keep up to 3,000 troops at bases in Tartus and Khmeimim. This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Sunday, December 15.
“The withdrawal of the Russian contingent from remote areas of Syria continues.
It was noted that there was talk among Russian soldiers that Moscow agreed to maintain a presence in the Syrian bases in Tartus and Khmeimimi – we are talking about a number of up to 3 thousand military personnel.
“In these bases, as well as in Russian ships in the region, problems with drinking water and food have been recorded. The remnants of the aggressor state group are waiting for the military aircraft involved in the evacuation, that should deliver food,” the Main Intelligence Directorate said.
So, on December 14, flights of two An-124-100 and two Il-76MD from Chkalovsk to Khmeimim were planned.
It was previously reported that hundreds of Russian soldiers would not be able to reach the air base in Khmeimim from Homs province because they feared their convoy would come under fire.
Let’s remember that on December 8, rebel forces in Damascus declared the capital “free” from Bashar al-Assad, who fled to Russia.
A few days later, the media reported that Russia was negotiating with the new Syrian leadership to keep the bases in Tartus and Khmeimim.
