Rutte said European support was unwavering, but discussing the details with the media would help Putin better prepare.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes that options for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia should be discussed behind closed doors, as publicity on the issue will help the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Rutte said this on Friday, December 13, in a commentary on the Voice of America.
The Secretary General said he preferred not to make public the details of what could be a “solid deal” for Ukraine.
“Otherwise, I’ll make (Russian President Vladimir) Putin more knowledgeable than you want him to be. Why are we talking on television now? We’re doing it behind closed doors, because otherwise, when he sits in the negotiating table, he already knows what we will do,” Rutte stressed.
He assured that Europe’s support for Ukraine will be unwavering.
“We are all with you, we want you to be in a strong position when it comes to negotiations on your terms,” the secretary added.
According to Rutte, work also continues with the team of US President-elect Donald Trump amid the possibility of reducing American aid to Ukraine.
Let’s remember that the day before the OP announced that Ukraine is not ready for negotiations with Russia. To start them, our country must be strong enough to talk to the aggressor on an equal footing.
Today, the Kremlin said that Russia does not need a truce in Ukraine, but peace, which will come after meeting all Moscow’s conditions.
