Unidentified drones are increasingly seen near several important military installations in Germany.
Unidentified drones have begun to be spotted at the Ramstein airbase in Germany. Police believe these are Russian reconnaissance drones. This was stated in a joint material of the German television channels NDR and WDR, published on Friday, December 13.
It was learned that the UAV was also spotted at other important objects in the country.
The unidentified drones first appeared in August in northern Germany. In the Brunsbüttel area, they flew over the ChemCoast Park industrial park, over an inactive nuclear power plant, a liquefied gas terminal, the Kiel Canal and its locks.
The journalists noticed that the speed of the drones exceeded 100 km / h. Experts believe that only military drones can fly this fast.
Police say some of the suspicious drones may be Russian. According to them, German law enforcement agencies do not have effective technology for intercepting or detecting drones. And the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces), which can shoot them, has no right to take civilian objects into German territory under protection.
The Rhineland-Palatinate police created a special department to investigate drone flights. But like the August incidents in northern Germany, authorities have so far been unable to determine who was flying the drones or where they were launched. According to NDR and WDR, the German police tried to use anti-drone technology, but without success. None of them were shot.
Since the end of November, they began to appear at BASF factories near Ludwigshafen, as well as at Ramstein Air Base, the headquarters of the US Air Force in Europe. According to Der Spiegel, in early December, drones were also seen at the enterprises of the defense concern Rheinmetall. They usually fly at night.
NDR and WDR noted that there have been no statements from the German government about the drone incidents.
It was earlier reported that a Russian drone attacked an IAEA vehicle on its way to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
