Russia began systematically using guided bombs to bomb Ukraine last year.
The Russian army has used aerial bombs 950 times since March 2024 against Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians. This was said in an investigation by the public organization Truth Hounds on Thursday, December 12.
“Russian air bombs were dropped on residential buildings, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure. As a result, more than 250 people died and another 1,300 were injured,” the NGO said.
For long-range strikes, Russia uses Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets armed with medium-range guided missiles (Kh-59) and guided bombs, the report said.
It is indicated that by the middle of 2024, Russian aviation will use three main methods for bombing attacks in Ukraine:
-
pump from UMPC (250 kg, 500 kg, 1500 kg, 3000 kg);
-
ammunition UMPB D-30SN (250 kg);
-
Grom-E ammunition (from 315 to 480 kg depending on the modification).
In September 2024, the Russian army used an average of up to 100 guided bombs every day to terrorize the Ukrainian population.
Truth Hounds said that the Russian army attacked 951 times from the beginning of March to the end of September 2024. Large cities with populations in the thousands, such as Sumy, Zaporozhye, Kharkov and Kherson, continued to under heavy air strikes.
“The low accuracy of the weapon, its use in densely populated areas during the day, and the absence of visible military targets in the areas of impact indicate the deliberate targeting of civilians such actions may qualify as war crimes,” the Truth Hounds report said.
Over the past week, Russia has used nearly 500 guided bombs, more than 400 attack drones and nearly 20 missiles of various types against Ukraine.
Let’s remember that in the three months of autumn this year, Russia launched more than 6,000 missiles and drones across Ukraine. This is four times higher than in the fall of 2023.
According to the National Security and Defense Council, Russia has accumulated a new resource at airports for missile attacks on Ukrainian territory.
