The parties have held multilateral consultations to improve mutual understanding and avoid miscalculations.
Representatives of the United States, Russia, Great Britain and France, led by China, met in Dubai, where they discussed nuclear doctrines. This was reported on Wednesday, December 11, on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The parties decided that such a discussion was timely to improve understanding of each other’s nuclear doctrines.
“Such discussions will allow nuclear states to avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations,” Beijing explained.
These are the first full consultations within the framework of China’s annual chairmanship of the nuclear five.
In June last year, such a meeting in Cairo was organized by the United States at the level of military and diplomatic experts of nuclear states. Russia also took part in it.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), nine states have 12,512 nuclear warheads as of January 2023.
Prior to this, the Pentagon presented a new nuclear deterrence strategy due to the strengthening of nuclear capabilities of other countries. The United States is modernizing its weapons and plans to simultaneously contain several nuclear adversaries.
