Russian occupiers killed 50 priests and destroyed about 700 churches during the war.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this in an interview with CBN, the Ukrinform agency reports.
Russians treat various Ukrainian churches almost like a school. That is, wherever they entered our territories, they destroyed schools and churches. Just so that not a trace remains. Therefore, many different priests were captured or killed,” Zelensky emphasized.
They killed 50 clergy. They killed in different ways. There is all the evidence of how they tortured them. Why did they torture them? Only because they had to serve Patriarch Kirill and their church, and the priest serves people and God,” he added.
Zelensky noted that churches are also targeted by Russian occupiers.
What did they gain from destroying about 700 churches? They attacked with bombs, missiles… And where they entered the territory of our state, they simply set it on fire,” he said.
