In the case of the murder of writer Vladimir Vakulenko, the prosecutor’s office announced suspicion of a third defendant.
Law enforcement officers reported suspicion to 36-year-old native of Lugansk Dmitry Katkalov with the call sign academician.
The investigation believes that Katkalov, along with other occupiers, tried to persuade Vakulenko to cooperate, but were refused. After that, they beat and then shot Vakulenko. Katkalov is also considered involved in the murder of an ATO participant and two local residents.
Earlier, the head of the Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkov region, Sergei Bolvinov, reported that “the formation of the Elenerovites was subordinate to the Russian unit, and, accordingly, they were accountable to it. There were four of them: the case against two is already in court, and we recently established the identity of the third with the call sign “Academician”. We already know his last name for sure, and now the suspicion against him is going through the approval process.”
According to him, the case will continue to be investigated to establish all the circumstances of the murder.
Thanks to the demonstrations of the people who were under occupation, we established that four “Elenerovites” were brought to the village (Kapitolovka – ed.) by a colonel of the Russian army, determined which of them would be the eldest, and told the people: “Listen to him.” that he gave them commands and he was responsible for them as a military man. whether this colonel was involved in the murder, whether he gave oral or written instructions to kill – we are looking for evidence. further – at all levels of command,” said Bolvinov.
As reported, the police suspect fighters of the illegal armed groups “LPR” with the call signs Lev and Hoopoe in the murder of children’s writer Vladimir Vakulenko and three other civilian men in Katolovka. The case is being considered in court.
At the end of November this year, the diary of children’s writer Vladimir Vakulenko, who was killed by the Russians, was published in Poland. The Polish publishing house “Pogranichie” published a translation of the book by the Ukrainian writer Vladimir Vakulenko-K. “I am turning… Diary of the Occupation. Selected Poems”. The Polish book was translated by Bogdan and Mark Zadur.
On January 24, 2024, the President of Ukraine posthumously awarded the Order of Merit, III degree, to writers Victoria Amelina, Vladimir Vakulenko, Maxim Krivtsov and actor Vasily Kukharsky.
