Law enforcement officers prevented an attempt on the life of a family of volunteers in the Cherkasy region.
This was reported today, December 10, by the press service of the SBU and the Cherkasy regional prosecutor’s office.
We are talking about the head of a charitable foundation that helps the Defense Forces, and her husband, a demobilized soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who was seriously wounded on the front line, the SBU said.
It is noted that as a result of a special operation in the region, a criminal group was neutralized, which, using homemade explosive devices, tried to blow up volunteers right in their home.
According to the investigation:
- suspects – husband and wife from Cherkasy region;
- the motive for the assassination attempt was the refusal of the victims to pay a fictitious debt for repair work in their house;
- The perpetrators carefully planned the crime. For a long time, they were looking for people who made homemade explosive devices and also acquired all the necessary parts;
- in the future, they planned to throw explosives into the sleeping room where the volunteers were supposed to rest.
The security service exposed the criminal group in advance and detained two of its members “in the act” when they were preparing to enter the victims’ apartment, the SBU said. — During the search, homemade explosive devices, components for making explosives and mobile phones were seized from the defendants in the act.
Currently, two organizers of the group have already been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 15, part 2 art. 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional murder committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons). They are also planning to suspect their accomplice.
The perpetrators were given preventive measures – detention without the possibility of posting bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
