The film 20 days in Mariupol, created by journalist and director Mstislav Chernov, became the most requested by Ukrainians on Google in 2024.
The Academy Award-winning documentary topped the list of search queries in the Movies category and entered the overall top ten most popular searches, coming in at number nine.
Google traditionally presents the ranking of search engines at the end of the year.
In the Movies category, the animation Puzzle 2 came second, and the sci-fi blockbuster Dune came third.
The documentary 20 Days in Mariupol is based on real events and materials reported by Chernov and his team of Associated Press photojournalists from the blockaded city in the first weeks of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The film is became a powerful documentary evidence of the horrors of war, presented to the world community.
The current list of the most popular movie requests indicates the absence of Russian films, reflecting changes in the interests of the Ukrainian audience.
