In Syria, the armed opposition captured the capital Damascus, and President Bashar al-Assad fled the country for Moscow.
The fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, in particular, was a defeat for Russia. This was said on Monday, December 9, by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, Cezary Tomczyk, writes Polskieradio.
“This is a defeat for Russia and another hot spot in the world that is being closely watched. This is further proof that Russia is a country of this axis of evil that is doing everything to unite countries against the West to cause chaos all over the world,” he explained.
Tomchik emphasized that the Russian Federation is trying to be active in many parts of the world, guided by the ambitions of the great power. But its capabilities, he believes, except for its nuclear potential, do not meet these aspirations.
“Therefore, it is forced to limit its participation in other areas, focusing more attention on the Russian-Ukrainian front,” added the deputy minister.
Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, leader of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, said the Syrian rebels’ main goal remains to topple the regime of Bashar al-Assad, as well as “building a new Syria.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented on the situation in Syria, saying that a new reality has emerged there.
