The Kremlin responded to Kazakh oil supply problems

Dmitry Peskov considers the need for additional contacts “with Kazakhstani partners”.

Moscow does not consider Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s statement about the need to diversify the means of oil supplies from the country as politically motivated. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on Thursday, July 7.

“It’s probably politically motivated. You have to look closely at it,” a Kremlin spokesman said.

Peskov added that Moscow is monitoring the development of the situation in connection with the temporary closure of the oil pipeline of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), where Kazakh oil is exported, through a Russian court decision.

“We actually read the considerations that, due to environmental parameters, a decision was made to suspend it, so here, of course, further contacts with our Kazakhstani partners are needed,” Peskov said.

Earlier, Tokayev announced the need to diversify the routes of oil supplies from Kazakhstan and called the Trans-Caspian route a priority.

As is known, on July 6, the Primorsky District Court of Novorossiysk suspended the activities of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium for 30 days, allegedly due to violations of the oil spill response plan. The CPC filed a motion in court to suspend the decision to stop the company’s production.

At the same time, two days before the closure of the oil pipeline, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, expressed his readiness to help the EU overcome the current shortage of energy resources. He said this in a telephone conversation with European Council President Charles Michel.

The CPC oil pipeline is the main export route for Kazakh oil, accounting for more than 80% of the volumes pumped into the pipeline. The capacity of the pipeline running from Kazakhstan to Novorossiysk is 67 million tons of oil per year.
