This, according to the FRG’s plan, should “remove Putin’s turbine excuse” so as not to pump gas into Europe. At the same time, they demand to provide the turbine not to Russia, but to Germany.
The German government has asked Canada to resolve the issue of providing the turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline to deprive Russia of the reason to reduce gas supplies. On Thursday, July 7, according to Bloomberg.
It was noted that Economy Minister Robert Habek had made a corresponding appeal. He said the issue should be resolved before repairs begin on July 11. He also proposed moving the turbine not to Russia, but to Germany.
“Please understand that we must remove this turbine excuse from Putin. We need the capacity of Nord Stream to fill our storage facilities. This is important not only for the German and European markets, but also for the security of supplies in Europe. If this is a legal issue for Canada, I want to clarify that I ask not to deliver benefits to Russia, but to help Germany, “Habek said.
As reported, the turbine, built in Canada by Siemens Energy AG, was sent to Montreal for repairs, but stalled due to sanctions on Russia’s aviation industry announced by the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canada qualifies it as a used dual purpose and refuses to return it after repair. Gas supplies have already fallen by 60% due to turbine problems, which have hampered Germany’s plans to increase stocks for the winter. At the same time, the German authorities fear the complete cessation of gas supplies from Russia.
It was previously reported that EU member states must develop a standard plan of emergency action within two weeks in case Russia completely cuts off gas supplies to Europe.
