Kim Yong Hyun is an active supporter of martial law. Now he is suspected of treason.
South Korean prosecutors have arrested former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun. He is suspected of treason as part of an investigation into the events surrounding President Yoon Seok Yeol’s declaration of martial law. Yonhap news agency reported this on Sunday, December 8.
It was learned that Kim Yong Hyun resigned on December 5. Three days later, he appeared for an overnight interrogation at the special investigation headquarters at 1:30, saying that he would actively cooperate with the ongoing investigation. He was then arrested, his mobile phone was confiscated and he was taken to a detention center in eastern Seoul.
The publication wrote that prosecutors arrested Kim because of the seriousness of his charges and concerns about the possibility of the former defense chief destroying evidence.
Kim Yong Hyun is an active supporter of martial law and, to ensure its compliance, personally ordered the military to be sent to the National Assembly building on December 3.
In the report, on December 3, the President of South Korea declared martial law in the country. He named the reason as the opposition, which, according to him, is an “anti-state force” that paralyzes the work of the country. South Korea’s parliament has voted to end martial law.
On Saturday, South Korea’s parliament failed to impeach the president, but the opposition announced its intention to try again next week.
