Ukraine sharply criticized Russia’s interference in the Romanian presidential elections.
Kyiv expressed solidarity with Bucharest against the background of “an unprecedented hybrid attack by Russia against Romanian democracy.” The intervention of the aggressor country in the internal affairs of Romania can be considered an attempt to deprive the Romanian people of the constitutional right to free expression of will. This was announced on November 7 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
This is another episode of Russia’s broader hybrid aggression against Europe and the rest of the free world, which has already manifested itself recently in active Russian efforts to undermine the situation in Georgia, Moldova and a number of other countries, the diplomatic department emphasized.
The Foreign Ministry said that such Russian interference in Romanian affairs only confirms Ukraine’s statements that the Kremlin’s aggressive plans extend to the countries of the European Union and NATO. They stated that the solidarity of Ukrainians with the Romanian people remains unshakable.
Let us recall that in the first round the far-right politician Kelin Georgescu won.
Georgescu’s first-place finish sparked fears and protests. Subsequently, the Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results of the first round of the presidential elections.
