In the past, the Turkish side invited Bashar al-Assad to come and hold a meeting about the situation in the country.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the target of the Syrian opposition units after taking control of several major cities in the north of the country is the capital of Syria, Damascus. Ukrinform reported this on Friday, December 6.
“Idlib, Hama, Homs and the goal, of course, is this Damascus of the opposition march,” Erdogan said.
The leader of Turkey noted that earlier the Turkish side invited Bashar al-Assad to come and hold a meeting.
“As the confrontation with the terrorist organizations continued, we called Assad on the phone and said: “Come, let’s figure out the future of Syria together, however, we did not receive a positive answer.”
As you know, the second largest city in Syria, Aleppo, is no longer under the control of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Rebels have already captured Aleppo’s airport and dozens of nearby towns. This is their first offensive in five years against President Bashar al-Assad’s army and the Russian contingent.
Syrian rebels entered the city of Hama on Thursday, forcing Bashar al-Assad’s government forces to abandon their positions after days of heavy fighting.
In this regard, Assad immediately flew to Moscow. According to media reports, Russia will provide additional military aid to Syria to prevent the rebels from advancing.
