Ukrainian researchers from KNIISE noted that the enemy is using KN23 and KN24 missiles against Ukraine.
Russia is using two types of North Korean missiles, KN23 and KN24, in the war against Ukraine. This was stated by experts from the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KNIISE) in a commentary to UNN.
KNIISE specialists examined almost all types of weapons used by the aggressor. The study of North Korean-made missiles such as the KN23 and KN24 is complicated by the significant fragmentation of research objects.
“The weight of the explosive material in the warhead of these weapons is about 500 kg, so the parts and debris of the missiles were almost completely destroyed or significantly deformed,” the experts explained.
More complete fragments are in the hands of experts, which made it possible to identify and compare KN23 and KN24.
“The research and analysis process remains complicated: experts work only on those things that are available and use data from open sources, because the technical documentation for these missiles is not available. Recent objects have specific characteristics that are similar between types of weapons, which made them easier to distinguish,” explained the KNIISE military research laboratory.
KNIISE added that they continue to detail the information collected, deepen research and build an evidence base for international justice in the context of the investigation of Russia’s crimes against Ukraine and North Korea’s participation in this aggression.
Let’s recall that the Main Intelligence Directorate reported that the DPRK has transferred more than 100 artillery systems and 100 short-range ballistic missiles of the KN-23/24 type to Russia since October.
