In the Democratic Republic of Congo, at least 79 people have died from an unknown disease with flu-like symptoms. This was reported by the BBC in relation to the country’s Ministry of Health.
An outbreak of diseases has been recorded in Kwango province in the south-west of DR Congo. The disease mainly affects young people – most of those who die are between 15 and 18 years old.
More than 300 people showed the following symptoms: fever, headache, runny nose and cough, difficulty breathing and anemia.
The country’s Ministry of Health and the African branch of the World Health Organization sent teams of doctors to Kwango province to provide assistance, study the disease and collect samples for laboratory research.
The population of DR Congo is also suffering from a large outbreak of smallpox. Between January and July alone, approximately 14.5 thousand infections were recorded in the country.
Let’s remember that in 2021, more than 160 children died from an unknown disease in the area of the city of Gunga in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
