The politician emphasized that Ukraine should be supported by all necessary means, and also that Ukraine should win the war, and Russia should lose.
The candidate for German chancellor from the opposition bloc Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, announced a visit to Ukraine. N-TV reported this on Wednesday, December 4.
As Merz said, the trip will take place “in the coming days.” Upon his return, he promised to “inform European partners” about the results of the visit.
He said this at an event in Berlin dedicated to security policy. In his speech, the CDU leader called on European states to provide more support to Ukraine.
“He [Украину] must be supported by all necessary diplomatic, financial, humanitarian and even military due to the fact that it demands the exercise of its right to self-defense and restoration of its territorial integrity. Ukraine must win the war, and Russia must lose,” Merz said.
He also refuted the widespread assertion that nuclear states cannot be defeated in a war. As examples, Merz cites the Soviet Union’s war in Afghanistan and the US wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan. At the same time, the politician emphasized that Germany should not be a participant in the war.
Merz was previously reported to be supporting the transfer of Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Early elections will be held in Germany: why is it important?
