Training programs are already showing a need for ex-military personnel, and their inclusion in the humanitarian demining process will help rebuild the country.
A new civilian profession, “deminer,” has appeared in Ukraine, which will allow Ukrainians to participate in the demining of territories contaminated with explosive objects. Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced this on Monday, December 2, writes Suspilne.
Previously, in Ukraine there were no uniform professional standards for deminers, which complicated the training of specialists. The new standard will significantly expand learning opportunities and provide internationally recognized qualifications. The developed standard provides five levels of training, from the basic level for non-technical inspection to the level of demining territories and buildings.
“This is an important step, because the deminer profession opens up new opportunities for citizens, especially for veterans, who want to work in this field,” said Sviridenko.
He added that the government provides support to veterans who want to learn this profession and work in the field of humanitarian demining.
Yulia Sviridenko emphasized that the initiative is part of a comprehensive mine action strategy aimed at returning to the use of potentially contaminated lands and improving citizens’ safety.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported what part of the territory was cleared of mines. Initially, the area of occupied territories possibly contaminated with explosive objects in Ukraine was estimated at 174 thousand sq. km.
Let’s add that veterans and disabled people will have the opportunity to find work in the field of demining the territories of Ukraine.
