Illicit US-made equipment arrives via Turkey, China, Hong Kong, the UAE and the Maldives.
Despite the US embargo, Russia continues to receive waterjet machines, which are critical for the production of military equipment. The Insider reported this on Thursday, November 28.
According to the publication, the banned American-made equipment is supplied through countries such as Türkiye, China, Hong Kong, UAE and Maldives.
Waterjet machines are used for high-precision cutting of metal, including armor materials. This method, based on the use of a water jet with abrasive powder under high pressure, avoids overheating the workpieces. This is especially important when working with alloy steels, where overheating can reduce strength due to corrosion of the elements.
According to customs data seen by The Insider, an Omax waterjet machine was imported to Russia in 2024, as well as numerous spare parts from manufacturers such as Molex, WSI, KMT, AccuStream and H2O Jet. The equipment is provided by the Russian company LLC Energy Industries, which employs only three people, and the funds are estimated at a modest 18 thousand rubles. This implies intermediary activity without production.
The machine was purchased through Yinuo Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., a company registered in Hong Kong. Despite the company’s activity in the Russian market, its official website could not be found.
Emirati Gartech FZE supplied American spare parts to the Russian company R-Garnet CJSC, which specializes in abrasive materials. Turkish Zarif Group Dis Ticaret AS imported American parts for the Czech PTV JETS engine, working through its Russian partner – Tvim JSC from Yekaterinburg. This company, according to its website and information from the Czech manufacturer, is the official representative of PTV in Russia.
Chinese Huizhou Speed Waterjet Technology Co., Ltd. sold parts to Chelyabinsk LLC Center for the Development of Waterjet Technologies, which served Russian scientific and industrial institutions, including Rosatom structures.
In the past, the media reported that Russia was evading sanctions and had significantly increased its missile production.
