112-year-old Joao Marinho Neto from Brazil is recognized as the new oldest person in the world.
After the death of Briton John Tinniswood, Neto became the record holder. His age – 112 years and 52 days – was confirmed by gerontologists from LongeviQuest, and the Guinness Book of Records officially registered the achievement.
Joao Neto was born on October 5, 1912, to a farming family in Marangupe, Brazil. From childhood, he helped his father: harvested crops, took care of animals. He continued the family business, inherited the land, and worked on the farm all his life, raising livestock and raising chickens.
The record holder was married twice, and seven children were born to the marriages. Currently, Joao has 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The Guinness Book of Records said that Joao Neto’s life was not easy. He survived the many droughts that devastated his region, but through hard work he was able to provide for himself and his family.
At the beginning of 2024, the Brazilian was recognized as the oldest living person in Latin America, and now he holds this title on a global scale.
Earlier it was reported that the American Eric Kilburn entered the Guinness Book of Records, setting two new records for the largest hands and feet among teenagers.
