Popular platform TikTok will ban teenagers from using filters that change facial features and strengthen age controls for users.
The TikTok platform has announced new measures aimed at protecting teenagers, The Guardian reports.
The company will ban users under 18 from using “beauty filters,” which change facial features in ways cosmetics can’t. We’re talking about popular effects like “Bold Glamour”, which add makeup, enhance lips, change face shape and raise eyebrows.
These measures are being taken due to concerns that the use of filters can lead to anxiety and negatively impact children’s self-esteem.
Innovations will not affect comic filters that are added to the face, for example, bunny ears or dog noses.
In addition, TikTok is stepping up its fight against fake accounts from users under the age of 13. The company plans to launch new automated systems to detect violations of age restrictions by the end of 2024.
TikTok deletes about 20 million children’s accounts every quarter, but admits the system sometimes makes mistakes blocking adults, too. In such cases, users are advised to contact support to restore their accounts.
TikTok continues to take steps to create a safe space for all users, even if it causes some resentment among young people.
Earlier, it was reported that seven families in France filed a lawsuit against the social network TikTok due to the influence of harmful content, which caused the suicide of two teenagers at the age of 15.
TikTok’s parent company is worth $300 billion
