The package is the largest use of presidential authority to immediately release weapons from US stockpiles
The administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing a military aid package worth $725 million for Ukraine, which should be officially announced before next Monday. Reuters wrote this on Thursday, November 28, citing sources.
It is known that the package will include various weapons aimed at hindering the advance of Russian troops. Supplies provided include:
-
anti-tank weapons,
-
mine,
-
drones,
-
piercing missiles,
-
ammunition for HIMARS systems,
-
cluster munitions that can be used in GMLRS missiles.
It is expected that an official message to the US Congress on this package will come on Monday. However, the content and amount of aid may change by the time Joe Biden signs the document.
This package would be the largest use of the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) to quickly release weapons from US stockpiles. Previously, such packages typically ranged from $125 million to $250 million, but Biden now has access to another $4 billion to $5 billion in PDA approved by Congress.
It was previously reported that Biden may not have time to give Ukraine the promised multi-billion dollar aid. The Pentagon has reached the monthly limit for sending weapons to Ukraine and now faces logistical problems in delivering weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
