The Verkhovna Rada registered bill No. 12222, which provides for reducing the age limit for military service from 60 to 55 years.
The document card on the Rada website indicates that its initiators are a group of people’s deputies, in particular Alexey Goncharenko, Vladimir Ariev and Yulia Tymoshenko.
Goncharenko in his Telegram channel gives the following arguments in favor of the initiative to reduce the age limit:
- most men aged 55-60 years are in poorer health, often considered to be of “limited fitness” and physically unable to perform all combat missions;
- military personnel who serve from 2022, especially those who were injured or reached 50+, need rotation or demobilization;
- commanders note that “the army is aging” and senior military personnel cannot always effectively carry out certain combat missions;
- The petition to lower the mobilization age limit to 55 years old received 25 thousand votes.
At the same time, those who want to extend their service will be able to do so at their own request,” the people’s deputy noted, adding that he will insist on a quick consideration of the bill.
