More than 22 thousand members of the Civic Coalition participated in the party primaries in SMS voting.
Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski has become a candidate for the presidency of Poland from the Civic Coalition (KO). This was announced by the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk on the social network X on Saturday, November 23.
“Rafal Trzaskowski is the candidate of the entire coalition in the presidential election,” he wrote.
According to Tusk, more than 22 thousand members of the Civic Coalition took part in SMS voting in the party primaries. Trzaskowski preceded current Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
Today, 52-year-old Rafal Trzaskowski is scheduled to announce his program at the party congress on December 7. During his political career, he was a member of the Sejm, the European Parliament, Minister of Administration and Digitalization, and Deputy Minister for EU Affairs.
Since 2018, Trzaskowski has been the mayor of Warsaw. In April 2024, he was re-elected to this position, winning the first round – 57.41% of the vote.
In 2020, Rafal Trzaskowski took part in the presidential elections and lost to Andrzej Duda in the second round by only 2%.
The presidential campaign in Poland will begin on January 8, and the election will be held in May. The country’s new president will take office on August 6, 2025.
