Down Street said it always complies with its legal obligations. At the same time, they refused to comment on specific scenarios or hypothetical situations.
The UK will comply with international legal obligations if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu comes to the country. This was announced by the country’s government, reported the Financial Times on Friday, November 22.
This is after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
It noted that when asked whether Britain would comply with the arrest warrant, a government spokesman said the country always complies with its legal obligations under national and international law. However, he declined to comment on specific scenarios or hypothetical situations.
The UK’s statement came amid reports that Germany has no plans to implement the ICC warrant, becoming the first Western state to express such a position. According to German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit, “Germany’s historical responsibility to Israel makes such actions impossible.”
The United States also condemned the ISS’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, citing the court’s lack of jurisdiction.
Before this, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said that all EU countries must comply with the ICC order against Netanyahu.
