The aggressor country, Russia, supplied North Korea with more than 1 million barrels of oil.
Probably, in this way, Moscow paid Pyongyang for military assistance – weapons and troops. However, the transfer of petroleum products to North Korea is a violation of UN sanctions that prohibit countries from selling oil to North Korea, with the exception of small quantities. The oil transfer is evidenced by an analysis of satellite images conducted by the non-profit research group Open Source Center. The BBC reported this.
In satellite photographs, experts saw more than 12 North Korean oil tankers making 43 trips to an oil terminal in Russia’s Far East over the last eight months of 2024. The photo shows how tankers arrive empty and leave almost full.
The first oil delivery took place on March 7, 2024. Experts concluded that since then the aggressor country has supplied North Korea with more than a million barrels of oil – more than double the annual limit. It is also about 10 times the volume that Moscow officially transferred to Pyongyang last year.
Let us remember that Bloomberg recently reported that North Korea could send up to 100 thousand troops to help Russia in the war against Ukraine. This will happen if cooperation between North Korea and the Russian Federation continues to intensify.
