Members of the group demanded money from those incarcerated in correctional institutions for not following the “thieves’ rules.”
In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officials exposed a criminal group that extorts money from inmates in correctional institutions. The Office of the Prosecutor General announced this on Wednesday, November 20.
Its activities were organized by a thief in law named Gega Ozurgetsky. Members of the group were recently released from prison and “specialized” in extorting money and illegally seizing vehicles,” said a statement on the department’s website on Wednesday.
According to investigators, while in a correctional colony, with several prison terms behind him for committing serious crimes, including premeditated murder, he recruited two “criminal authorities” into the activities of group. One of them was nicknamed “Lame”.
“They demand money from those imprisoned in correctional institutions in the Kyiv region for not following the “thieves’ rules”. . message.
Thus, members of the group extend criminal influence to those detained in pre-trial detention centers for their quiet stay in places of deprivation of liberty.
Currently, the organizer and one of the members of the group were informed on suspicion of extortion and illegal seizure of vehicles (Part 4 of Article 189, Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The organizer is also charged with establishing or spreading criminal influence (Part 3 of Article 255-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Let’s remember that in 2020, the thief in law Georgy Kiladze, known as Gega Ozurgetsky, was sentenced to seven years in prison.
And a few years before that, it was reported that “Gega Ozurgetsky”, a Georgian thief in law, was expelled from Ukraine. The operatives found that he intended to establish and expand his influence on criminal processes in the regions, to unite the activities of individual organized groups to strengthen their criminal activities, and to carry out general organizational and administrative functions in organizing their activities.
