US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen attorney Matthew Whitaker as his nominee for US Ambassador to NATO. This is confirmed by Trump’s own statement, published on the social network X on Wednesday, November 20.

Matthew Whitaker has never been involved in foreign policy or national security before, so his political views are unknown, Democratic Party officials said.
Whitaker served as acting attorney general for about three months during Trump’s first presidency. At the time, he criticized the special counsel’s investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
He also previously served as US Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa during the administration of President George W. Bush.
