The undersea telecommunications cable C-Lion1, laid between Finland and Germany, has failed.
The publication Yle writes about this with reference to the company Cinia, which deals with fiber optic networks and provides telecommunications services.
The cause of the malfunction is being investigated. The fact that the cable was damaged was noticed on the morning of November 18. Telecommunications connections have been disrupted, but this is unlikely to affect ordinary citizens.
Seismologist Toni Waikkolainen from the Institute of Seismology at the University of Helsinki said that no signs that could indicate a possible explosion have yet been found.
The cable, put into operation in 2016, runs near the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
