The rally took place on the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, when Czechoslovakia ended communist rule and later split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
In the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, on the night of November 17, thousands of people protested against the policies of the government led by Robert Fico. The AP reported it.
The rally took place on the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, when Czechoslovakia ended communist rule and later split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The protest was attended by opposition parties – the liberal Progressive Slovakia, the pro-business Freedom and Solidarity, and the conservative Christian Democrats.
“Slovakia has been and will be a part of Western civilization that we don’t want anyone to move us towards Moscow,” Frantisek Miklosko, who was one of Slovakia’s leaders in 1989, told those gathered in the square.
According to Freedom and Solidarity leader Bronislaw Grelling, Fico is leading the country “toward an authoritarian regime, like in Russia and communist China.”
As Michal Simečka, leader of Progressive Slovakia, now the most popular party in the country, said, the opposition will do everything to defend freedom and democracy.
Let’s remember that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico harshly criticized journalists, calling them “bloodthirsty freaks,” and proposed the creation of a national media watchdog.
As reported, an attempt was made on the life of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico for the second time.
