After the US election, Scholz, despite Zelensky’s earlier objections about the advisability of negotiations with Putin, decided to call the Kremlin leader.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz several months ago consulted with President Vladimir Zelensky about the appropriateness of a call to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
According to the former foreign minister, a few months ago Scholz asked Zelensky if a call to Putin would be appropriate.
“Zelensky opposed this idea and Scholz abstained,” he said on X (Twitter).
However, as Kuleba noted, after the US election, Scholz, despite Zelensky’s earlier objections about the advisability of negotiations with Putin, decided to call the head of the Kremlin.
“Zelensky publicly but gently criticized him for this,” he said.
According to Kuleba, such a decision by the German chancellor has several consequences, among which, in particular, is that Putin “left European isolation, and Germany made way for him immediately after Hungary.”
“Putin has shown the world that his strategy is working – the West will finally bow under the guise of calls for him to stop the war, which he has no intention of doing,” he said.
Kuleba also drew attention to the fact that with such a move Scholz hit the reputation of Germany among Ukrainians.
The former minister is also confident that such a decision by the German Chancellor will not strengthen his image among German voters.
At the same time, the former Foreign Minister admitted that he may not know “all the arguments in favor of this call,” but “he is trying to understand how justified it is.”
Let’s remember that the Foreign Ministry announced that the talks between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will not help to achieve a just peace, because the latter views Western persuasion as weakness.
