The sanctions include a ban on buying Iranian oil, a freeze on Iranian assets in the United States and its foreign affiliates, and a ban on the export of American goods, including food and medicine, in Iran.
Iran is demanding $1 trillion in compensation from the United States for sanctions imposed against the country. This was announced on Saturday, November 16, by the Deputy for Legal Affairs of the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), General Ali Shamkhani. Al-Alam TV channel reported this on Saturday, November 16.
“The Americans must pay Iran $1 trillion in compensation for the damage they have caused to our country by containing it,” the IRGC general said in a statement.
It is known that the United States first approved restrictive measures against Iran after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
The sanctions were imposed against the backdrop of the seizure of the embassy by a group of Iranian radicals. In particular, Washington stopped buying Iranian oil and froze Iranian deposits in banks.
Later, some prohibitions were removed, others were strengthened. After the nuclear deal (2015), sanctions began to be gradually lifted in response to restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.
In 2018, Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement and reinstated all US sanctions against Iran that were still in place.
