The exception is supplies under a one-time license issued by the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control.
The Russian government temporarily limited the export of enriched uranium to the United States. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers on the signing of the corresponding definition, reports RosSMI.
We are talking about the export of enriched uranium to the United States or under foreign trade agreements concluded with persons registered in the jurisdiction of the United States. The exception is supplies under a one-time license issued by the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control.
It was noted that the decision was made at the direction of Vladimir Putin in response to the US imposed for 2024-2027. restriction, and from 2028 – a ban on the import of Russian uranium products.
In September 2024, the Russian government was ordered to study the possibility of limiting the supply of strategic raw materials, such as uranium, nickel, titanium and many others, to foreign markets, on the condition that it does not harm the Russian economy.
Rosatom did not disclose the volume of uranium exports from the Russian Federation by the end of 2023. Last year’s report only stated that the company had a 17% share of the global nuclear fuel market and that uranium products were supplied to 33 customers in 14 countries. The countries of Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia remain the traditional supply destinations.
Last year, uranium production in the Russian Federation reached 2.7 thousand tons, the state corporation also has production facilities in Kazakhstan.
Let’s recall that the United States Senate has agreed to a bill banning the import of uranium from the Russian Federation.
