Vladimir Putin and Olaf Scholz had a “detailed and honest exchange of views” on the situation in Ukraine.
Moscow confirmed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Its main topic is the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin press service reported on Friday, November 15.
It said that a “detailed and frank exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine” was held. At the same time, Putin traditionally blames NATO for everything, which allegedly created an anti-Russian bridge in Ukraine and ignored Russia’s security interests.
According to him, Russia is ready for negotiations, and its demands have been known for a long time.
“Possible agreements must take into account the interests of the Russian Federation in the field of security, based on new territorial realities, and above all, eliminate the root causes of the conflict,” Putin said.
The Russian dictator also complained about the “unprecedented deterioration in all directions” of relations between the Russian Federation and Germany and accused Berlin of an “unfriendly course.”
“It was agreed that after the talks, the assistants of the leaders will be contacted,” the Kremlin added.
Earlier on Friday, media reported that Scholz would have a phone conversation with Putin. The last time the leaders of Germany and the Russian Federation spoke was in December 2022.
It was later learned that the conversation had already taken place. Scholz condemned Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and called on Putin to stop it and withdraw his troops.
Before the talks with Putin, the German Chancellor spoke with the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky. He will also do this after talking with the head of the Russian Federation.
