People’s Deputy Andrei Odarchenko was sentenced to eight years in prison.
On November 14, VAKS found him guilty of attempting to bribe the ex-chairman of the State Agency for Reconstruction, Mustafa Nayem, with cryptocurrency. This was the first time that anti-corruption authorities recorded a bribe in cryptocurrency.
In September it became known that Odarchenko illegally crossed the border with Romania. He was put on the international wanted list.
In October, a fugitive deputy from the Servant of the People faction appeared at a meeting of the High Anti-Corruption Court on October 16 via video link. Odarchenko stated that he was forced to leave the territory of Ukraine allegedly “due to danger to his health.” At the same time, the people’s deputy refused to say where he is now.
After Odarchenko’s escape, the Supreme Court of Justice granted the prosecutor’s request to initiate special judicial proceedings against the deputy. This decision made it possible to continue the consideration of the case in the absence of the deputy.
