All officials who had contact with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley could be fired.
US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is compiling lists of military officials they plan to fire. This may include members of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. Reuters reported this on Wednesday, November 13, citing sources.
Specifically, two anonymous agency sources said the layoff planning process is in its early stages and could change as the new Trump administration takes shape. They also stressed that such decisions could represent unprecedented personnel changes at the Pentagon.
One of the sources expressed doubts about the propriety of such drastic changes in the US Department of Defense.
It remains to be seen whether Trump himself will support such initiatives, although he has been critical in the past of military leaders who oppose him. During the election campaign, he promised to fire several generals and those involved in the controversial withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2021.
Another Reuters source said the new administration is likely to focus on officials associated with former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley.
Bob Woodward’s book “War” quotes the general as calling the newly elected president “a fascist to the core.” Trump fans criticized Milley for being disloyal to the former president.
“Everyone who promoted or appointed Millie will leave their post. There is a detailed list of everyone who had contact with Millie. And they will all be fired,” said a second agency source.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff include top US military officers as well as the heads of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, National Guard and Space Force.
It can be recalled that Trump announced Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz as his candidate for the position of Attorney General.
