Ukraine has confirmed the deportation or forced migration of 19,546 Ukrainian children by Russians.
Ukraine managed to return 1,002 children from Russian territory and temporarily occupied lands, but the Russian Federation forcibly expelled almost 20 thousand more. This was said on Tuesday, November 12, by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets in Brussels at the European Parliament at a conference dedicated to the return of Ukrainian children home, writes Radio Liberty.
“First of all, our international partners help us. The main partner on the issue of the return of Ukrainian children is Qatar. As a result, we continue to increase the number of Ukrainian children we return from Russia. temporarily occupied the territories of Ukraine,” said Dmitry Lubinets.
The Ombudsman emphasized that Russia forcibly removed 19,546 children in total, while suggesting that the real number is higher and will continue to grow.
“They do not provide any information about the Ukrainian children who live in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, the children deported by the Russian Federation will grow up,” said Lubinets.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights also added that the Russian Federation is “postponing as long as possible” the process of returning Ukrainian children.
Lubinets called on the international community to create a permanent body for the return of Ukrainian children, join a coalition of countries working on it, collect information about forcibly displaced children, develop programs for their rehabilitation and work to bring those responsible to justice.
