Donald Trump has chosen Congressman Mike Walt as his national security adviser. The Republican confirmed this on his social network Truth Social.
He questions aid to Ukraine, writes Reuters.
Waltz served as director of defense policy for several secretaries of defense and was elected to Congress in 2018. He also chairs the House Armed Services Subcommittee, which oversees military logistics, and sits on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
Following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, he called on the Biden administration to provide Kyiv with more weapons to help it push back Russian forces. But last month, Waltz said there must be a reassessment of US goals in Ukraine.
Or is it in America’s interests to spend the time, money, and resources that we now desperately need in the Pacific region? Voltz asked at sunset.
Waltz also called Trump’s promise to negotiate between Ukraine and Russia “perfectly reasonable” and said that if Russian leader Vladimir Putin doesn’t cooperate, the U.S. has “leverage, like taking the handcuffs off the long-range weapons that we’ve also given to Ukraine.”
